As Chair, I dealt with two separate mediation situations during 2006-2007. These referrals came from several sources including self-referred, and Faculty Senate. In past years referrals have also come from The Office of Affirmative Action.
In February 2006, I met with Bill Boggess to discuss the selection process of this committee and to offer recommendations. I recommended that Faculty Senate appoint people to serve on this committee who have some formal training in mediation. One option I proposed was to have one person serve as Faculty Mediator, and another person serve as alternate. Faculty Senate voted to implement this option on June 14, 2007. I accepted the offer the serve as Faculty Mediator. My colleague, Ross Artwohl, MSW, agreed to serve as alternate. Ross brings a lot of experience and training, and I believe he will do an excellent job.
