  3. REPORT FROM ACADEMIC PROGRAMS (B. Burton)

    Nothing to report.

  4. OLD BUSINESS

Conversation continued on development of Curriculum Council policy for graduate degrees and certificates offered at OSU Cascades. Discussion included budget, faculty involvement, library resources, Graduate Council, accountability, quality, possible ex-officio member from OSU Cascades, etc.

Action: C. Boyer will meet with Faculty Senate Executive Committee on February 10 for further discussion.

  5. NEW BUSINESS

    1. Abbreviated Category I Proposal to Eliminate M.S. in Software Engineering This is an OUS decision. There is no evidence of any objections. The six students currently enrolled will be able to complete the program.
Decision: The Curriculum Council approved the Abbreviated Category I Proposal to Eliminate M.S. in Software Engineering
    2. Discussion to create policy with regard to non-credit certificates and 800 level courses.

800 level courses are designed to be learning experiences for in-service practicing professionals in the discipline. These courses are not intended to carry academic credit and my not be applied to graduate or professional degree programs.

Non-credit certificates designed for practicing professionals may include a requirement to take a set of 800 level courses. Because these are meant as non-credentialed (not transcript-visible) programs, they may not make any claim in their marketing or elsewhere that indicates that the coursework has academic or credentialed value.

Action: M. Rhodes and B. Burton will find out if 800 level courses appear on transcript.

NEXT MEETING: Thursday January 29, 2004, in the President’s Conference Room, Kerr Administration Bldg.
