  5. NEW BUSINESS
    1. Category I proposal for Master of Engineering (MEng) Degree. This degree will provide   students the opportunity to pursue advanced-level study in a field of engineering without the requirement for a research thesis or project. The degree will be concerned with the practical application of specialized, graduate-level engineering knowledge to specific engineering disciplines. The degree will be a course work-only degree.

Decision: The Curriculum Council approved the Category I proposal for the Master of Engineering (MEng) Degree pending the addition of a table showing the current and projected (2009) masters degree enrollments and graduation rates, sorted into thesis and non-thesis degrees, as requested by Budgets and Fiscal planning.

    2. Category I proposal for Graduate Certificate in Health Care Administration. For the past five years, the Health Care Administration program has been offering a six- course off-campus certificate of completion at participating hospitals. The respective communities have expressed a strong need for health care administration courses that are specifically focused on the needs of full-time working professionals. The purpose of this graduate certificate is to give health care professionals rigorous academic preparation in health care administration and management.
Decision: The Curriculum Council approved the Category I proposal for a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Administration contingent upon budget approval by the Budgets and Fiscal Planning.

    3. A motion was made and approved to correct the April 1, 2004, minutes as follows:

      Incorrect:
Distance Education/E-campus – Curriculum Council and E-campus are each drafting     a Memo of Understanding. It was suggested they work together on one version.
Action: P. Minear will provide a draft of the E-campus MOU to the Curriculum Council.

      Correct:
Joan Gross, Curriculum Council representative to the Faculty Senate Distance Education Committee, reported that Ecampus is establishing MOUs with several colleges for future program development and to implement the new revenue-sharing model.  If an MOU exists with Cascades Campus, the Curriculum Council would like to review the draft, in accordance with the new policy for reviewing programs at Cascades.
Action:  P. Minear will check with the Dean of Extended Campus and will submit this document, if it exists.

NEXT MEETING:  Thursday, May 6, 2004, in the President’s Conference Room, Kerr Administration Bldg.
