The agenda for the January Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.
- ACTION ITEMS
- Install Elected Officials
Installation of President Jack Higginbotham; President-Elect Kate Hunter-Zaworski; new Executive Committee members: Kevin Gable, Anne Gillies and Mario Magaña; Interinstitutional Faculty Senate Senator, Bob Mason; and newly elected Faculty Senators.
- Approval of Parliamentarian
Approval of Michael Beachley, Department of Speech Communication, as Faculty Senate Parliamentarian.
- Proposed Revisions to Academic Regulations
Dodi Reesman, Academic Regulations Committee Chair, will present for approval proposed revisions to the following Academic Regulations: AR 22, AR 23 and AR25d. Additionally, the following Housekeeping Revision is proposed: Allow Academic Regulations Committee to correct unit names, unit addresses, committee names or position titles as the changes are approved without Senate approval each time a change occurs.
- Graduate Council Policy on Learning Objectives for the Ph.D. Degree
Walt Loveland, Graduate Council Chair, will present for approval the proposed General Learning Outcomes.
- SPECIAL REPORTS
- Tobacco Free OSU
Lisa Hoogesteger, Director of Healthy Campus Initiatives, will summarize the recommendations of the OSU Smoke Free Review Task Force, which were presented to the President’s Cabinet in October 2010.
The Tobacco Free website provides the following background documents: Review Task Force Report, Proposed Implementation Plan, FAQs and a list of the 466 Colleges and Universities that are smoke or tobacco free. The website also provides an opportunity to submit comments or questions and to indicate whether you’d like a response to your question.
- Research Office Vision
Vice President for Research Rick Spinrad will share his vision for the Research Office and provide an update of activities.
- INTO Update
Chris Bell, OSU Accreditation Steering Committee Chair and former INTO Director, will provide a background of INTO and Bob Gilmour, INTO Director of Academic Programs, will provide an update of INTO activities.

- Faculty Senate Calendar
Faculty Senate meetings for 2011 have been scheduled from 3:00-5:00 PM on the dates indicated below. All meetings have been scheduled in the LaSells Stewart Center Construction and Engineering Hall, but Senators are advised to check the monthly agenda to confirm the meeting site.
- Faculty Sessions with President Ray
President Ray will meet with faculty in small group sessions on the following dates: January 26, 1:00-2:30; February 2, 10:30-Noon; and February 24, 2:00-3:30. Each session will be facilitated by a Faculty Senate Executive Committee member and will consist of up to 15 faculty. This is an opportunity for the President to hear what faculty are thinking and experiencing. To register, send the following information to Vickie Nunnemaker: name, unit, email address, faculty category (professional, professorial, etc.) and the date(s) you're available
- Faculty Senate Handbook
Faculty Senate Handbook materials can be found on the Senate web site. The web site contains information about Senators, committees, agendas, minutes, etc.
- The Future of Higher Ed: The Nation, Oregon, Oregon State
The OSU Retirement Association (OSURA) is sponsoring 'The Future of Higher Ed: The Nation, Oregon, Oregon State' from 3:30-5:30 PM on January 27 in the LaSells Stewart Center Construction and Engineering Hall. The session will be moderated by Roy Arnold, Professor and Provost Emeritus, and the panelists are John Byrne, President Emeritus, OSU; Tony Van Vliet, Professor Emeritus & former State Legislator; and Robert Frank, Professor Emeritus.
