The agenda for the February Senate meeting will include the reports and other items of business listed below.
- Category I Proposal
Charles Boyer, Curriculum Council Co-chair, will present the Category I proposal to eliminate the Master of Software Engineering. Both the Curriculum and Graduate Councils have approved this proposal.
- Legislative Report
Representative Kelly Wirth will share her perspectives on several issues: the outcome of the passage or failure of Ballot Measure 30 on February 3; the evolution of the new Oregon State Board of Higher Education; and how support for Oregon students can be increased to assure that they can attend higher education institutions in Oregon.
- Unified Image Project
Curt Pederson will present information on a proposed unified image that will replace the current OSU logo.
University Faculty Award Nominations
A memo has been sent to deans, directors, and department heads/chairs informing them that nominations will be accepted until April 10 for the faculty awards listed below. The criteria and nomination form for each award is linked to the Individual Awards page on the web. The awards will be presented during University Day on September 16.
OSU has a highly qualified faculty and few opportunities to recognize their contributions - we depend on you to facilitate nominations for these awards.

Faculty Senate Meeting Dates To Change
Effective in March 2004, the monthly Faculty Senate meeting will move to the second Thursday of each month (rescheduled dates are listed below). This
move has been made necessary by the recent change of the monthly meeting for the Oregon State Board of Higher Education (OSBHE). Starting March 4 and 5,
the OSBHE meeting will be held on the first Thursday of each month; as a result, President Ray, Provost White and others in the upper administration will
not be available to attend or participate in the Faculty Senate meetings scheduled on the first Thursday for the balance of this academic year. Although
it is likely that fall term may be similarly impacted, for the moment we have set the remaining Faculty Senate dates for spring 2004. The meetings will
continue to be held in the LaSells Stewart Center except as noted.
May 13 (location to be determined)
For the moment, please hold both the first and second Thursdays of October-December, 2004. Thank you for understanding the necessity of this change in schedule.
Courtesy Faculty Task Force Report
The final report from the Courtesy Faculty Task Force will be discussed during Vice Provost Sabah Randhawa's comments. The link for this report will be forwarded to Senators early next week.
Optional Retirement Issues (ORP)

The Interinstitutional Faculty Senate (IFS) will be discussing this issue on Saturday, February 7. Mina Carson, Faculty Economic Welfare & Retirement Committee (FEWRC) Chair, is also an OSU IFS Senator and is chairing a special IFS ad hoc committee relating to ORP. FEWRC welcomes your input on this topic, please direct comments to Mina Carson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
At the request of the Library faculty, the Bylaws and Nominations Committee recommends that a separate Library apportionment unit be restored and that the faculty in Information Services return to the Associated apportionment unit. Additional information on this item will be distributed prior to the March Faculty Senate meeting when it is anticipated that this item will be discussed and will probably appear as an action item in April.
