Oregon State University provides educational programs to promote awareness of rape, acquaintance rape and other sex offenses and has adopted procedures to advise and assist victims/survivors of sexual offenses.
University Counseling and Psychological Services, Sexual Assault Support Services, Student Health Services, Student Conduct and Mediation Programs, the Women's Center, and the Department of Public Safety present educational and risk-reduction programs and provide information concerning rape, acquaintance rape and sex offenses. Affirmative Action provides information and educational programs regarding sexual harassment.
Rape, sexual assault, or forced or unwanted sexual contact of any kind or threat of such contact, are prohibited, as is any physical abuse (see Oregon Administrative Rule [OAR]576-015-0015). Sexual contact shall be considered "unwanted" or without consent if no clear consent is freely given; if inflicted through force, threat of force, or coercion; or if inflicted upon a person who is unconscious or otherwise without the physical or mental capacity to consent. If sexual contact is inflicted on someone who is intoxicated or impaired in the exercise of their judgment by alcohol or drugs, it may be considered without consent.
Stalking is repeated unwanted contact without legitimate purpose that causes alarm so that the person has reasonable apprehension about their personal safety. Stalking is illegal and treated with zero tolerance on the Oregon State University campus. If a stranger or someone you know is stalking you, report the crime immediately to the University Patrol Office of the Oregon State Police 737-3010 (7-3010).
Students or staff members who violate these regulations are subject to disciplinary action. In the case of students, these range from university warnings to suspension or expulsion from the university. For staff and faculty, disciplinary action is taken up to and including termination. Disciplinary actions are taken only after appropriate hearing procedures are followed. Those involved are advised of procedures and possible outcomes and both the accuser and the accused shall be informed of the outcome of any campus disciplinary proceedings alleging a sexual assault.
Victims of rape, acquaintance rape or other sex offenses are encouraged to first get immediate medical attention from Good Samaritan Hospital. A rape advocate from the District Attorney's Office or the Corvallis Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence can assist in obtaining specialized help, answer questions and provide other support. The District Attorney's office and/or Student Health Services can assist victims to determine if they are eligible for financial assistance to help cover medical and counseling services. Victims are encouraged to report incidents to the Oregon State Police or Corvallis Police. Additionally, victims are encouraged to contact and inform the appropriate University authorities including Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Human Resources or Affirmative Action.
