Faculty in the Department of Science and Mathematics Education in collaboration with faculty in the Computer Science Department at Oregon State University have developed a program incorporating spreadsheets as a learning tool in science and mathematics education while focusing on developing knowledge and skills for creating dependable and dynamic spreadsheets. The program for inservice teachers is in a hands-on setting that covers the basics of spreadsheet design, use of spreadsheets as tools for learning mathematics, exploring real world problems, the importance of testing spreadsheets to minimize the possibility of errors in the results, and techniques for scaffolding students' learning with and about spreadsheets in mathematics classes. |
