Dr. Christopher BayneAddress: Department
of Zoology, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR 97331-2914. Research interests. My interest is the evolution of immune systems. I study the innate immune system in rainbow trout, with a focus on the acute phase response and the plasma proteins that are involved. I also study immunological aspects of host-parasite interactions in molluscan schistosomiasis (the intermediate host of the human blood fluke). My studies are at both the molecular and the cellular levels. We have sequenced trout liver-derived genes that are transcribed at enhanced rates in response to an inflammatory stimulus (Vibrio bacterin emulsified in oil). I am interested in determining how well the knowledge of messenger RNA levels for selected genes will support diagnosis of recent environmental experiences of an individual (zebrafish or trout). I am developing a DNA array of trout genes to facilitate this and related studies. | |||
