The Mazama province has more precipitation and is colder than the John Day. It is characterized by Ponderosa Pine and Artemisia, with Pseudoroegnaria. Sisters, Oregon has extensive Ponderosa Pine with Sagebrush on the shallow soils.


This is a cool, moist site with a Ponderosa shrub steppe on the mountain sites and Juniper on the drier sites. Frost can occur at any time during the year.


Crater Lake is mesic and very cold, with very snowy winters. Frost can occur at any time of the year. It is dominated by forests of fir and hemlock.
