Poison hemlock (Conium maculatum) is a biennial, so it initially
forms a rosette in the first year's growth.
Rosettes are rather bushy compared to other plants, and can grow up to
2 feet tall and wide. This is the stage of growth I most commonly
see in nursery production. Rarely are plants allow to go uncontrolled
for two seasons to develop into a mature plant.
During the second year, the plant grows erect, highly branched, flower
stalks.
In its mature form, poison hemlock can can grow as high as 8 feet tall.
