Hairy nightshade (Solanum sarrachoides) seedlings have linear cotyledons with elliptical first true leaves.

First true leaves are small and elliptical, but 3rd and 4th leaf pairs are larger and begin to take on the plant's characteristic leaf shape.

Habit is a low growing mound.  When allowed to grow without interference from mowers and herbicides, plants develop a nice mound 1 to 2 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide.
