Liverworts (Marchantia polymorpha) do not have roots. They have
root-like structures called rhizoids. Rhizoids appear to originate
primarily from the center of each thallus.
In the image above, a liverwort thallus was turned upside down to view
the rhizoids, which appear a tangled mess of white strands.
