Habit Foliage Flowers
Curly dock (Rumex crispus) stems are jointed and partially to fully
covered with a structure called the ocrea. The ocrea is simply a membranous
sheath that surrounds the stem at each node or joint. The ocrea is
a fused stipule.
As plants mature, the ocrea may become brittle and start to deteriorate.
