Note: The following proclamation was recently issued by Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
WHEREAS: College Colors Fridays, is a program that coincides with both “back to school” and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics, including football, on college and university campuses in the State of Oregon;
WHEREAS: The College Colors Friday Program seeks to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great through encouraging fans, alumni and students to wear apparel of their favorite college each Friday beginning August 29, 2008; and
WHEREAS: Dozens of public and private colleges and universities are located in Oregon, providing educational opportunities to thousands of Oregon residents and non-residents; and
WHEREAS: For nearly 150 years, Oregon colleges and universities have been educating citizens of the State of Oregon; and
WHEREAS: Intercollegiate athletics in the State of Oregon provide scholarship opportunities to thousands of young men and women; and
WHEREAS: The College Colors Fridays Program promotes higher education in Oregon through increased public awareness and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities in our state; now
THEREFORE: I, Ted Kulongoski, Governor of the State of Oregon, do hereby proclaim every Friday, beginning August 29, 2008 as College Colors Fridays in Oregon.
