CORVALLIS, Ore. – David Sisson, professor of cardiovascular medicine at Oregon State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, has received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Torino, Italy.
Sisson's more than 30 years of accomplishments in the field of veterinary cardiology were noted by Torino scholars, particularly in the area of congestive heart failure in domestic animals.
Sisson has published more than 54 scientific papers, as well as 128 abstracts and a reference book in small animal cardiology. His work appears in numerous reference books in the field. Sisson's interests include development of biochemical markers for developing myocardial disease, neurohormonal responses to left ventricular dysfunction, cardiac imaging and the development of non-surgical interventions for treating congenital heart disease.
The University of Torino was established at the beginning of the 15th century by Prince Ludovico of Savoia-Acaja and was officially recognized by Pope Benedetto XIII in 1404.
