CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jeff Sklansky, an associate professor of history from Oregon State University, has been awarded a Burkhardt Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies.
Sklansky's research interests include 19th- and 20th-century American thought and culture. He entered the history field after having been a journalist for news organizations such as the Associated Press, The Washington Post and the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times.
Sklansky is also the author of several books, his latest being "The Soul's Economy: Market Society and Selfhood in American Thought, 1820-1920," published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2002.
The Burkhardt Fellowship is a $75,000 fellowship awarded to 11 scholars each year. This is the seventh year that the fellowship, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as well as the Rockefeller Foundation, has been in place.
The fellowships support long-term projects in the fields of humanities and social sciences.
