CORVALLIS, Ore. - United States Magistrate Judge Dennis J. Hubel will visit Oregon State University on Wednesday, March 1, to discuss the role of technology in the U.S. court system. His free public talk, "The Modern Court: Is Technology Changing the Judiciary?" begins at 4 p.m. in Memorial Union Room 211.

Hubel is a magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court of Oregon. His OSU appearance is sponsored by the Associated Students of OSU and the University Honors College.

His lecture will focus on the role that technology plays in the collection and analysis of evidence. Hubel will talk about his own experience in dealing with these issues and forecast how technology will play a role in the future of the judiciary.

"The science is moving so quickly and is so sophisticated that trial lawyers and judges themselves may be dependent on expert testimonies in ways not seen in the judicial process previously," said Joe Hendricks, dean of the University Honors College.

Hubel also will speak about the selection of Supreme Court judges as well as provide tips for students looking into a career in law.
