OSU Dean Honored for Business Leadership in Portland

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Ilene Kleinsorge, dean of the College of Business at Oregon State University, has been honored by the Portland Business Journal with an Orchid Award.

The award is the publication's annual recognition of 25 women who have shown "extraordinary leadership and accomplishment" over the past year in the Portland business community. The recipients will be honored at a celebration on April 27 at the Oregon Convention Center.

Kleinsorge holds the Sara Hart Kimball Dean's Chair in OSU's College of Business.

For the past three years, Kleinsorge has served on the Governor's Small Business Council, and she is a technical adviser for the Oregon Innovation Council. In partnership with the business deans from the University of Oregon and Portland State University, she helped set up the Oregon Business Institute in downtown Portland, which will serve as the new home for the Oregon Executive MBA program and OSU's executive education programs.

She also participated in the Leadership Portland program last year, sponsored by the Portland Business Alliance.

Kleinsorge has been active in statewide conversations promoting the future of Oregon's economy, as well as issues of economic development and workforce development. She brings a "Land Grant perspective" to those conversations, emphasizing the need to better prepare students for all of the state's critical industries.

Since 2002 Kleinsorge has led the college as dean and was instrumental in establishing its Austin Entrepreneurship Program. Prior to being named dean, she chaired the college's Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Management.

A business faculty member since 1987, Kleinsorge has focused her teaching and research on cost and managerial accounting efficiency metrics.
