Lectures Series Stresses Impact of Technology on Business

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University College of Business has invited academic and business experts to campus to discuss the impact that information technology has not only on our daily lives, but also on the business world.

A wide range of lecture topics in the fifth-annual Emerging Topics in Business series, this year titled "The Virtual World of Tomorrow," illustrate that technology is more than simply games and movies.

Each of the discussions will be on a Monday night this spring, beginning April 10 and running through May 22. The lectures, held from 6 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. in Dearborn Hall Room 118, are free and open to the public.

The following is a list of the weekly lecture topics and the presenters:

  • April 10 "Trust in Virtual Worlds," by Bob Phillips, RW & Associates;
  • April 17 "IT Tools for Working in Virtual Environments," Holly Gibbs, Summit Information Systems, and Sakthi Angappamudali, Standard Insurance;
  • April 24 "The Dark Side of Virtual Education," Chester Bateman, OSU College of Education;
  • May 1 "Being Effective in Virtual Projects," Ilze Zigurs, University of Nebraska-Omaha
  • May 8 "Best Practices in Global Collaboration," Ketan Parangjape, Intel;
  • May 15 "Virtual Supply Chains," Kim Sather, Hewlett-Packard;
