Kleinsorge had chaired the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Management at OSU from 1995 to 2000, and again from 2001-02 before she was named interim dean in December. She has been a faculty member in the College of Business since 1987.

Most of Kleinsorge's teaching and research has focused on cost and managerial accounting systems, with an emphasis on multinational companies. She is researching how multinational corporations are addressing the need to assure ethical behavior in business decision-making.

"Ilene Kleinsorge brings many attributes to this position that will well serve the college and Oregon State University," said OSU Provost Sabah Randhawa. "She brings a reputation of high integrity and commitment to the College of Business, and she has a strong set of management skills and relevant leadership experience."

One of her goals as dean is to lead the development of the Enterprise Management and Development Center that includes the implementation of the college's new Entrepreneurship Program. Kleinsorge also said she hopes to build new internal and external alliances for the college; develop partnerships with alumni and businesses to increase private giving; and ensure that administrative processes within the college are responsive to student, faculty and staff needs.

Kleinsorge graduated with honors in 1977 from Emporia State University in Kansas, and received a Ph.D. in business from the University of Kansas in 1988. Before joining the OSU faculty, she worked as an accountant and a financial analyst in Kansas.

The winner of several OSU teaching awards, Kleinsorge received the Burlington Resources Foundation Faculty Achievement Award in 1991.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the American Accounting Association. Kleinsorge is also a reviewer for four professional business journals.

Kleinsorge will direct a business program that has more than 2,100 students, including 92 MBA students. An additional 300 students are pursuing business minors. Among its notable programs are the Austin Family Business Program and the new entrepreneurial initiative that will begin next fall.
