CORVALLIS - Curt Pederson, the vice provost for Information Services at Oregon State University, is taking over the reins as OSU's vice president for University Advancement.
Pederson will handle both roles during the next several months while the university launches a national search for a new chief advancement officer. The previous vice president, Orcilia Zuniga-Forbes, retired last spring and continues to work with the university part-time.
"Curt brings to this role a deep knowledge of Oregon State University and its constituents, a superb set of leadership skills, and a strong commitment to our strategic plan and our future," said OSU President Ed Ray. "University Advancement activities will be of increasing importance in the months and years ahead. We are very fortunate to have someone of Curt's ability to oversee this area while the search process goes forward."
As vice president for University Advancement, Pederson will oversee the university's marketing, publications, news and communication, and special events programs, and work closely with the OSU Foundation and the OSU Alumni Association.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to work with this talented group of professionals on telling the OSU story," Pederson said. "Oregon State University is clearly on the rise, as evidenced by our growing enrollment, our partnerships with businesses and other organizations, our $150 million in annual research, and our service mission throughout the state."
Pederson came to OSU in 1997 after serving as Oregon's first state chief information officer. He previously had worked with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. Pederson also spent more than 20 years managing administrative and operating functions of the 12th largest publicly owned utility in the U.S., Snohomish County PUD in Washington.
As vice provost for Information Services, he helped that unit overcome financial difficulties, while reorganizing and expanding computing services to the campus. As the lead administrator in Information Services, Pederson oversees the university's Communication Media Center, Technology Support Services, Central Computing, Network Services and Central Web Services.
Zuniga-Forbes, who came to OSU in 1998, remains active with several of OSU's Portland-based initiatives. She also is on the board of directors for the Meyer Memorial Trust, which she chairs, and Providence Health System.
