CORVALLIS - The Corvallis Repertory Singers will hold auditions for available positions on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The auditions will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Benton Hall Room 204, on the Oregon State University campus.

Open singer spots include soprano I, alto II, tenor I, and bass II. Founded this fall, the ensemble intends to expand from 20 singers to 24. Qualifications for membership include the ability to sing independently and artistically, interest in singing in a challenging and motivating ensemble, and the ability to prepare the music independently before rehearsals.

Singers interested in auditioning should contact Steven Zielke at 541-737-5584 to reserve an audition time. They will need to perform two songs in contrasting style for the audition, as well as be prepared to demonstrate sight-reading skill.

Cosponsored by the OSU Department of Music, the ensemble's mission is to provide professional level performances for Willamette Valley audiences, and to provide an artistic outlet for the area's finest singers. Founded by Zielke, OSU's director of choral studies, the Corvallis Repertory Singers recently made their debut performance to a large and enthusiastic audience. The distinguished group of singers includes some of the area's finest soloists, and many in the ensemble are professional musicians and music educators.

The inaugural season includes two more performances, including a winter concert on Feb. 4 called, "Musicians Wrestle Everywhere: A Concert in Praise of Music." Rehearsals will take place on the last four Tuesdays in January.

Zielke is in his second year on the OSU faculty. He received his advanced degrees in choral conducting from Florida State University and taught at the University of Arizona for several years before moving to Corvallis.
