CORVALLIS - Oregon State University fraternities are welcoming nearly 300 new pledges.

When a student is accepted by a fraternity, he becomes an associate member of the organization, often referred to as a "pledge." At OSU, there are 24 fraternities - and 15 sororities. The university follows national trends with 18 percent, or about 2,900 students, part of the campus Greek system.
