CORVALLIS - Edward Jensen, an associate professor of forest biology at Oregon State University, has received a national teaching award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges.

Jensen was given the 1997 Excellence in College and University Teaching in the Food and Agricultural Sciences Award - one of only eight such awards of its type in the nation. It included a $2,000 honorarium to be used for further teaching innovations at the university.

Jensen has taught about forests and forestry in the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years and received several honors for his educational programs. He directs the Forestry Media Center at OSU, which works to improve teaching in the College of Forestry. He also helped develop the award-winning Oregon Forestry Education Program for K-12 educators.
