CORVALLIS - The 1996 annual conference of the Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research will be Dec. 4-5 at the Red Lion Hotel-Columbia River in Portland.
A highlight of this year's meeting will be keynote speaker Zelma Long, chief executive officer of the Simi Winery in Sonoma, Calif.
Long, one of the most well-known enologists in the United States, will speak at the conference luncheon on Dec. 4 and will describe her work with the American Viticulture and Enology Research Network, which links industry and researchers in setting research priorities.
The conference will also feature research updates in pest management, berry and grape processing, genetics, and wine production and physiology. Ed Hellman of the Oregon State University North Willamette Research and Extension Center will make a special presentation on the Berry and Grape InfoNet.
