CORVALLIS - The holiday spirit will abound this weekend at Oregon State University when the campus holds its annual free Children's Holiday Party from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
And, for adults who want to shop, OSU's 16th Annual Holiday Market will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 7.
The events will be in OSU's Memorial Union and feature live entertainment, said Joe Maxwell, holiday special events director for OSU's Memorial Union Program Council.
"I have been a part of this for the last two years, and expect this year to be one of the best yet," Maxwell said. "Each year, we take over the Memorial Union and let children participate in different activities.
"This year's theme for the children's party is 'A Few of My Favorite Things.' Kids will be able to participate in cookie decorating, ornament making, pinata-breaking and science-related activities. There will also be dancing entertainment and lessons provided by the Hoolyeh Folk Dancers, a children's dance group, who were at the party last year," Maxwell said.
Party registration begins at noon at the Memorial Union Lounge. Children will be guided to projects in the union, then return to the lounge at 3 p.m. for a 30-minute magic show, featuring audience participation, Maxwell said.
The Holiday Market will be in the MU Ballroom, featuring handmade items from the OSU Craft Center.
There will be a free parking and shuttle service from OSU's Parker Stadium at Western Boulevard and 26th Street.
