For the month of September, the Giustina Gallery features seven local artists who reveal their artistic journeys through painting, collage, photography and clay sculpture. As part of the exhibit, each artist will share what sparked this particular body of work and show how their artwork evolved from that initial inspiration. Their individual “points of departure” are just as varied as their media.

For one it was the challenge of using up leftover art materials, while for another it was giving up a slow, meticulous process for one that allowed her freedom and spontaneity. Another was inspired by the joy of the birth of a grandchild while another explored the meaning of a life-threatening disease. One found his inspiration in reality, Oregon waterways, and another in her imagination, pondering a lone house on a hill. One artist rediscovered the creative joy of photography by embracing the imperfection of images made with simple equipment, printed by hand.

A reception will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Giustina Gallery, 100 LaSells Stewart Center. Complimentary hor d’oeuvres will be provided by OSU Catering and wine is available for purchase from WineStyles.

The artist reception for this show is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

However, in their free time, Sharon and Larry Rosenkoetter enjoy photographing wildlife during their many travels. More than 180 photographs of wildlife found in North America are featured in the exhibit, North American Wildlife, now showing in the Giustina Gallery at Oregon State University’s LaSells Stewart Center.

An artist’s reception will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. It is free and open to the public.

According to Sharon Rosenkoetter, an associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at OSU, the photographs represent a broad range of the work that the Rosenkoetters have collected in the past 20 years. Her husband, Larry Rosenkoetter, is a retired faculty member with OSU’s Department of Psychology.

The exhibit, which is co-sponsored by OSU’s Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, will show through September 30. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
