Kirstin Strickland joined the College of Engineering at Oregon State as the director of strategic engagement on Oct. 23. Strickland has nearly 15 years of experience in university relations, fundraising, business development, and marketing communications within higher education.
In her new position, Strickland will work closely with college leadership to develop a strategy that nurtures relationships with alumni, volunteers, and other external groups.
“ The director of strategic engagement is a key member of a team charged with development, cultivation, and continuing refinement of engagement initiatives and programs,” said Julie Brandis, the Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships. “Kirstin’s wealth of knowledge and relevant experience uniquely position her to develop a comprehensive strategy for increasing stakeholder engagement.”
Before joining Oregon State, Strickland was the executive director of alumni relations at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering where she served as a key member of the dean’s external relations team overseeing alumni relations, managed signature events, and edited the USC Viterbi Engineer magazine. Strickland oversaw a multi-year rebranding of the school and played a key role in its $300 million fundraising initiative. She also created donor cultivation strategies, communication plans, and an overarching school visibility program to serve the school’s education and research mission. She was also an independent consultant in Los Angeles.
Strickland earned a B.A. in English and Spanish in 1998 from Union College in Schenectady, New York.
