Oceanographer Murray Levine has died

murrayMurray D. Levine died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. He was 64.

Murray was a dear colleague and friend. He spent a 35-year career at the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University, rising from a beginning position as postdoctoral researcher to Full Professor.

Murray was a seagoing physical oceanographer and an international expert on oceanic internal waves. Complementing his research work, Murray was a gifted teacher. In 1998, he was awarded the very first Pattullo Award for Excellence in Teaching.

A valued mentor, he served on more than 30 graduate student committees. He will be sorely missed.
