Food science team wins regional championship

The 2011 Oregon State University IFTSA (Institute of Food Technologists Student Association ) has been named Western Regional College Bowl champion. In the final round, Oregon State defeated Univ. of California-Davis to win the U.S. Western Regional championship.   Food Science teams from Washington State Univ. / Univ. of Idaho and Fresno State University also participated in the competition which was hosted
at Oregon State University last Saturday, April 2.

The Oregon State food science team will compete with winners from seven other U.S. regions in the National College Bowl competition at the June 2011 IFT Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

Since 1985, the IFTSA College Bowl Competition has tested the knowledge of student teams from across the United States in the areas of food science and technology, history of foods and food processing, food law, and general IFT/food-related facts. The College Bowl is designed to facilitate interaction among students from different universities,
stimulate the students’ desire to accumulate and retain knowledge, and provide a forum for students to engage in friendly competition.  Oregon State previously won the national College Bowl in 1988 and 1993.
