Professor Chen is a legend. He was the best professor I've had in my four years of undergrad education. Somehow, someway, in a way noone else can duplicate, he managed to make vector calculus hilarious and enjoyable. A man who can somehow manage to make numbers funny doesn't come along often.

RIP, Professor Chen.

I once asked Larry about his secret to such successful teaching. He told me something, but as I thought more about it and him, I realized that it was his unselfish nature to share himself with others who relied on him, in every aspect of university life -- no problem. Those who knew Larry are left with happy memories to accompany a sad and untimely loss.

Larry Chen was an inspiration to all of us at OSU---students and faculty alike. His enthusiasm was contagious. Fond memories of Larry include listening to him explaining an obscure concept in real analysis using an example that somehow involved items on a Chinese food menu! He had an amazing ability to communicate complex concepts while showing that they were really "very, very, easy!"

He will be greatly missed.

This is a huge loss for us all. Having taken a number of his courses, I clearly remember his sense of humor, his excellent ability to bring the obscure to clarity, and his incredible love of the subject and his students - which was evident every day! Never did I see him not give 100%.

He was 'THE' professor I recommended above all others, no matter the difficulty of the material. For the rest of my life, as I use the tools he taught me, I will remember his quirky smile as he explained the beauty of an equation.
