Oregon State University’s department of University Housing & Dining Services will host “Taste of the Indian Ocean,” a celebration of the culture of the countries surrounding the Indian Ocean, on Wednesday, Nov.17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Marketplace West Dining Center.
The celebration is part of a culture and cuisine series on campus, and is being held in conjunction with OSU’s International Education Week. The program will honor the cultures and foods of India, Madagascar, Pakistan, South Africa, Kenya and other countries that surround the Indian Ocean. The event will feature live dancing by the OSU Bhangra Team, a student run organization performing traditional regional Punjabi folk dance, and the OSU Faculty and Staff Fitness Bollywood class.
Tickets cost $8 and will be available at the door, or in advance from any of the University Housing and Dining Services dining centers.
Menu items include lamb vindaloo, red chicken curry, Sumatra beef rendang, vegetarian chickpea curry, birani saffron basmati rice, mango mousse, and other regional culinary favorites.
University Housing and Dining Services, honoring its commitment to sustainability and in collaboration with Campus Recycling, will be serving the meal on compostable bamboo plates and using compostable glasses and utensils and composting food waste.
The event is sponsored by University Housing and Dining Services in collaboration with the International Students of Oregon State University (ISOSU), International Student and Faculty Services, and INTO-OSU.
