In light of classified employees doing their part to balance the budget by taking a pay cut in the form of furlough days, is there any discussion going on regarding furlough days for unclassified employees?

It seems to me that Dr. Ray's comments to the Faculty Senate and this morning's article, "Preparing For A Better Future", are very important. I believe that words matter and Dr. Ray has carefully phrased his message in a way that clearly portrays the goals of the university, describes an endstate, and highlights the gaps which helps to light the path toward the future. It isn't just academic rhetoric. Understanding the vision for the future allows me to align the non-academic work I do with the greater goals of the university. It impacts how I design catering services and products, it impacts they type of restaurants I design, it impacts the menus, it impacts the relationships with local farmers, it impacts our purchasing agreements, it helps prioritize the conferences we recruit to campus. It helps define or redefine our role in the Corvallis community and it signals the legislature and donors that our efforts are focused and their dollars will be productively used.

Great message. Thanks,
Rich
