This was by far one of the best classes I have taken at OSU. Originally I just took it as an easy A to fill a cultural diversity credit. The first day of class informed me that I was going to have a new and wonderful experience! I had never played any musical instrument before and was extremely happy when I was able to learn the native american flute. This instrument lets me express my creativity in a brand new way. I wrote my first song for a friend’s birthday during that term!

I took Jan Michael’s class back in 2005 and it was FABULOUS! I’ve played instruments before, but nothing like the Native flute. It truly does have a power beyond music. Jan Michael was an EXCELLENT instructor! His enthusiasm and down-to-earth attitude made it so much more than just another class in my schedule.

Jan is a tremendous teacher and inspiration. His attitude and teaching style helps kids understand that there is life beyond midterms and finals. Students take more than good grades away from his class, it is a new understanding of Native Americans and the culture around you.
