Work Experience
Kelly brings a broad range of experience to MCAREC. She has surveyed for wildlife on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, assisted in an ongoing population study of the penguins of Antarctica with the National Science Foundation, and worked on a seabird monitoring project with Fish and Wildlife in Alaska. She has also taught biological sciences and ecology to elementary and middle school aged children at different environmental education centers. In 2003 she spent a year working as a research assistant at the University of Montana in the Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The lab focused on the role of genetic variability in the susceptibility to environmental insult such as exposure to asbestos.

Responsibilities at MCAREC
Kelly joined the Plant Pathology program at MCAREC in 2005 and assists Dr. Robert A. Spotts with research on pre- and post harvest diseases of tree fruits. Research includes developing molecular techniques for pathogen detection in the field and packinghouse, biology and epidemiology of fungal and bacterial pathogens, and chemical, biological, and cultural control of tree fruit diseases.
