- Deciduous shrub, 4-5(8) ft tall x 4-8 ft wide (1.2-1.5(2.4) x 1.2-2.4 m), upright and spreading, multi-stemmed. Leaves opposite, simple, broad ovate, 3-10 cm long, 2-6.5 cm wide, rounded at base, irregularly dentate, dull green and stellate (star-shaped hairs) pubescent above, underside paler and pubescent, 4-7 vain pairs. Flowers pink at first, then white, 10-14 mm wide, tube 6-10 mm long, in hemispherical clusters about 6 cm wide, very fragrant at first. Fruit blue-black, 1 cm long, ellipsoid.
