Syringa × chinensis
Chinese Lilac, Rouen Lilac si-RING-ga × chi-NEN-sis
- Deciduous shrub, 8-15 ft (2.4-4.5 m) tall with similar width, dense, somewhat arching. Leaves opposite, simple, to 8 cm long and 3 cm wide, ovate-lanceolate, medium to dark green above and pale below, glabrous.
Flowers, pale lilac, in clusters, 10-15 cm long, fragrant.

- chinensis: of or from China, a misleading name since this plant is not from China. S. × chinensis is a hybrid (S. × persica × S. vulgaris) that was developed in Rouen, France in about 1777.
