White Icicle Flowering Currant               ri-BEEZ san-gwin-EE-um

• Broadleaf deciduous multistemmed shrub, 6-8 ft tall and about 6 ft wide (1.8-2.4 × 1.8 m), upright-arching to rounded habit.  Leaves alternate, simple, foliage pale green.  Blooms about 2 weeks earlier than most wild forms, drooping clusters, 10-13 cm long, pure white flowers.  Fruit blue-black with whitish bloom.
• Sun, for best flower production, but can be grown in part shade.  Drought tolerant when established.
• Hardy to USDA Zone 6     Introduced by the University of British Columbia, Botanical Garden, in 1988.  Collected some years ago near Victoria on Vancouver Island and given to the curator of UBC's alpine garden and grown in the UBC Botanical Garden for a few years before its release.    A Great Plant Pick of the Elisabeth Carey Miller Botanical Garden, Seattle.
