Rhododendron Unique (a hybrid of R. campylocarpum)
- Broadleaf evergreen, 4 ft (1.2 m), dense, symmetrical. Leaves alternate, simple,
broad-elliptic or occasionally slightly obovate, smooth, 10 x 4.5 cm, obtuse, usually with a 1 mm point (mucro),
medium green above, lighter below. Flower buds pink-red then apricot, when open ivory flushed with
pink, fade to nearly white, delicate blotch, corolla funnel-campanulate, 6 cm wide, anthers pale brown, stigma
red; up to 14 flowers per tight cluster.

5o F, early-mid, 3/4-5/4 [flower / plant & foliage / performance; scale 1 (poor) - 5 (best)]. Sun to part shade.
- There is a pink-flowered version known as Bruce Brechtbill.
This cultivar is a bud sport of Unique and "looks and acts identical to
Unique until it flowers" (Greer, 1996). The flowers are pink with some yellow in the
throat. Bruce Brechtbill is planted at River Front Park, Corvallis.
