Rhododendron Pioneer Silvery Pink (R. Pioneer × unknown)
- Semi-deciduous, 4 ft (1.2 m) in 10 years, upright. Leaves elliptic, flat, acute apex, wedge-shaped base, about 6.5 cm long, semi-glossy, moderate olive green, retained 2 years. Flowers are small, about 5 cm across, purplish-pink in bud, opening pale purplish-pink and lightly spotted purplish red, openly funnel-shaped, wavy edges; in somewhat loose ball-shaped clusters with 15 or so flowers.
- -20o F, early (2 weeks after Gable's Pioneer). Heat tolerant, may have red foliage in fall. Developed by Hoogendorn before 1985 (Greer, 1996).
