Rhaphiolepis Majestic Beauty (syn. Rapiolepis) Rosaceae
Majestic Beauty Indian Hawthorn       raf-i-o-LE-pis
- Broadleaf evergreen shrub/tree, 10-12 ft (3-3.5 m). Leaves to 10 cm long, serrated and pointed, initially bronze, turning deep green. Flowers pink, 2 cm across, some double.
- Sun, somewhat drought tolerant, good resistance to leaf spot (Dirr, 1990, p. 708).
- Hardy to USDA Zone (7) 8, barely cold hardy here (killed at -3oF), needs protection. Some think it is a hybrid between a Rhaphiolepis and an Eriobotrya (loquot), others list it as R ×delacourii, a cross of R. umbellata × R. indica.
- Oregon State Univ. campus: south side Cordley Hall, next to west entrance.
