- Deciduous, thicket forming shrub, mostly 7-12(20) ft [2-4(6) m] tall. Leaves pubescent below, more cordate and rounded at the base than the Common or Eastern Chokecherry [P. virginiana (P. v. var. virginiana)]. Fruit black when ripe.
- Sun or partial shade.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 4 Native range from British Columbia southward into northern Mexico, Texas, and California (except the coast and Central Valley) May not be agreement on this distribution.
