Prunus Snow Goose
Snow Goose Flowering Cherry, PROO-nus
- Broadleaf deciduous tree, to 20 ft (6 m) tall and 20 ft wide, upright, spreading with age. Leaves alternate, simple, ovate, new leaves green, not bronze. Flowers appear before the leaves, pure white, single, they show a typical reddening of the center at the end of flowering (typical of Prunus incisa, one of its parents).
- Full sun and well-drained soil. .
- Hardy to USDA Zone 5 Raised by A. Doorenbos of Holland (Jacobson, 1996). Apparently a hybrid between Prunus speciosa (syn. P. serrulata var. speciosa) and Prunus incisa (Kuitert, 1999). Snow Goose is listed in nursery catalogs and elsewhere as Prunus Snow Goose, Prunus subhirtella Snow Goose or Prunus serrulata Snow Goose.
