Otto Luyken's Laurel         PROO-nus lar-o-ser-A-sus

• Evergreen shrub, 5 ft (1.5 m) tall, spread of 10 ft (3 m), upright stems, compact.  Leaves alternate, simple, 10 cm long about 2.5 cm wide, dark green, margin entire except for a few small teeth near the tip, point up and away from the stem.  Buds green.  Flowers heavily, but briefly, in spring or summer.  Fruit black, round, about 1 cm.
• Sun to part shade.
• Hardy to USDA Zone 6      Introduced in 1968 by a nursery in Hanover, Germany.
• Oregon State Univ. campus: in the parking lot behind Cordley Hall, near loading dock.
