- Deciduous tree, 70-90 ft (21-27 m) tall but only a 10-15 ft (3-4,5 m) spread, very columnar, dense. Leaves alternate, simple, rhombic-ovate, 5-10 cm long, finely crenate-serrate, broad base, dark green above, light green below.
- Sun. Fast growing but short lived. A canker in the upper branches
and trunk often kills the tree before it reaches final height.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 3 Arose in the Lombardy district of Italy in the 1600's.
