Flaming Silver Japanese Pieris pi-ER-is ja-PON-i-ca
- Broadleaf evergreen, variegated shrub, small, slow growing, to 5 ft (1.5 m) tall in 10 years, similar width. New leaves bright red, becoming pink and finally green with silvery-white edges, the color of the young leaves contrast with the green of older leaves. White flowers appear with the young leaves.
- Sun to part shade. Best in moist, well-drained, acid soil with ample organic matter. However, not as demanding for acid soil as many other ericaceous plants. Responds to fertilization, especially in high rainfall areas.
