- Deciduous shrub, to 9 ft (2.5 m) tall. Leaves alternate, compound, biternate. Flowers yellow, to 12.5 cm wide.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 6 Native to Tibet.
- lutea: yellow ludlowii: after Frank Ludlow (1885-1972), he and George Sherriff introduced it into commerce in 1936.
