- Broadleaf deciduous tree, 30-40 ft (9-12 m) tall, similar spread. Leaves alternate, simple,
obovate-oblong, 10-15 cm long and 5-9 cm wide, tip short acuminate, tapering at base, sparingly pubescent
above, light green below. Flowers borne singly, white to ivory, 9 (to 12) tepals (petals),
fragrant, 13-15 cm across, goblet-shaped initially, spreading with time. Fruit cylindrical,
10-15 cm long, brownish, exposed seeds red at maturity.
- Sun or partial shade.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 5 Native to central China.
