Fagus sylvatica Tricolor Fagaceae
Tricolor European Beech, Tricolor Beech, 'Purple Tricolor', 'Roseomarginata' FA-gus sil-VAT-i-ka
- Leaves purple/maroon, later green, pink and white edged.
- More than one selection apparently falls under this label. Jacobson (1996) states that this common clone is actually 'Purpurea Tricolor'. The leaves of the "true" 'Tricolor' are green and edged with pink in spring turning white in summer; that form originated in France before 1870 and is extremely rare. 'Rosemarginata' is similar or identical to 'Purple Tricolor'.
