Irish Heath, Connemara Heath, St. Dabeoc's Heath
- Evergreen shrub, twiggy, to about 1.5 ft (50 cm) high. Leaves alternate, simple, oval-oblong, only 1 cm long, dark green above, silver pubescence below. Flowers in 10 cm loose terminal racemes, corolla to 12 mm long, purple (selections white, pink, rose, etc.).
- Hardy to USDA Zone 6 Native to Ireland and western Europe. Many cultivars, with flowers colors of white (e.g., 'Alba'), white and magenta striped (e.g., 'Bicolor'), rose-purple (e.g., 'Atropurpurea'), pale pink (e.g., Donald Pink) and more compact forms (e.g., 'Praegerae', dark pink flowers).
